The vestibulum takes the form of a longitudinally arranged slit on the ventral surface. Body ciliation complete, those at the anterior sometimes being longer then those on the rest of the body. Cell may be found in a lorica or swimming free. When in the gelatinous lorica the cell usually partially projects from it. Lorica may be short but often long and always tubular, either solitary of colonial in branched lorica. Contractile vacuole always apical, sometimes with 2 short serving canals. Macronucleus rounded and centrally positioned. With one exception, those species originally placed in the genus Mycterothrix have been transferred to Maryna.
