Dinamoeba
Dinamoeba Leidy, 1874 (ref. ID; 3652) or Leidy, 1874 (emend. Luetken, 1876) 1879 (ref. ID; 3687)
[ref. ID; 1618]
Essentially Amoeba, but the temporary posterior region of body with retractile papillae; body surface including pseudopods and papillae, bristling with minute spicules or motionless cils; often surrounded by a thick layer of delicate hyaline jelly, even during locomotion. (ref. ID; 1618)
[ref. ID; 1923]
Small, conical, determinate pseudopods very numerous. (ref. ID; 1923)
[ref. ID; 3652]
One species, D. mirabilis, considered by some as large herbivorous mayorellid amoeba, by others as a flagellate Mastigamoeba aspera. If the cils described by Leidy are nonmotile flagella, Dinamoeba belongs in the family Mastigamoebidae, except cils (flagella), which characterize all other members of the family and order, are not always present. This species may be intermediate between order Pelobiontida and some members of order Euamoebida or order Acanthopodida within phylum Rhizopoda. (ref. ID; 3652)
[ref. ID; 5694]
