Didascalus thorntoni Singh, 1952 (ref. ID; 7395)

Remarks

Page, 1976 included D. thorntoni in the genus Naegleria. In his new key to freshwater amoebae published 12 years later, Page, 1988 again separated D. thorntoni from the genus Naegleria, because all Naegleria species appear to have pores in the cyst wall, while D. thorntoni does not. By allozyme analysis (Adams et al. 1989), D. thorntoni was not genetically similar to any of the Naegleria isolates studied, but it coudl be included in the final analysis. In the 18th edition of the American Type Culture Collection catalogue (ATCC 1993) D. thorntoni is still classified as N. thorntoni. (ref. ID; 7395)

Type location

Originally isolated in 1950 by B.N. Singh from farmyard soil in England. (ref. ID; 7395)
