Bordnamonas

Stramenopiles incertae sedis (ref. ID; 4872)

[ref. ID; 4898]
This organism was originally placed with the stramenopiles because of the similarity of the swimming behaviour to that of taxa such as Cafeteria (Larsen & Patterson, 1990). Unlike most stramenopiles, Bordnamonas has flagella that are of roughly equal length, are thickened and insert together in a common subapical crease. There is also an anterior rostrum containing an ingestion apparatus. These features are strongly reminiscent of certain kinetoplastids (Patterson & Simpson 1996), however no kinetoplast has been observed and no electron-microscopical information is available. (ref. ID; 4898)
