Large ciliate, outline-shape elongated oval or pyriform tapering anteriorly. Oral aperture in anterior body half and 9-shaped rather than pyriform. Membranelle M3 very large but very deep in the buccal cavity and displaced far to the right. There is a distinct 'x' body associated with membranelle M2. Pre-oral suture straight, coaxial with body, formed where kineties arch over in anterior body third. Somatic ciliation dense with over 100 kineties present but only 9 or 10 post-oral meridians. The pellicle is curiously sculptured producing a squared of tile-like surface. Contractile vacuole in posterior body half. Single spherical macronucleus centrally located. Single species genus originally described by Penard (1922).
